The Kunstmuseum’s collection of prints has been continually expanding since the 1950s and today it contains around ten thousand works of art. The emphasis is on international print series, portfolios, and artist’s books, spanning the arc from expressionism to American pop art and contemporary art.
The core of the collection consists of Otto Pankok’s early work, along with individual prints and series by Ernst Barlach, Max Beckmann, Oskar Kokoschka, and Käthe Kollwitz. Gradually, print series and book illustrations by Georges Braque, Marc Chagall, Max Ernst, Joan Miró, and Salvador Dalí set new accents. Pablo Picasso’s Suite Vollard can be counted among the masterpieces of the print collection.
