Partition walls. A project by students from the University of Duisburg-Essen on art in schools in Mülheim an der Ruhr
The exhibition will open on 12 April 2025 at 5 pm and run from 13 April to 13 July 2025.
In this exhibition, students from the University of Duisburg-Essen will present their artistic work and research on art in schools in Mülheim an der Ruhr. The focus is on historical works of post-war modernism that are often overlooked or threatened by renovation and demolition. Inspired by the artist Sebastian Freytag as part of courses in collaboration with the Kunstmuseum Mülheim an der Ruhr and accompanied by art-scientific analyses and archive work under the direction of Kerstin Meincke, the students are exploring the visibility and potential of these works of art.
The exhibition reflects the perception of art in architecture in a school context and opens up contemporary future perspectives, showing the view of a generation that feels it belongs to a differentiated, inclusive and diverse artistic language. The exhibition aims to open up new ways of social co-operation from an artistic perspective for teaching at schools and universities. The artistic results focus primarily on the medium of mural painting, while collaborative approaches utilise the exhibition space as a holistic installation space.
